  1. Hi Ben,
It’s good to see you. 😉
I am aware of the conditions you are pointing out and relate prevention techniques. You have good messages and I like what you are doing for other people. I intend to stay young for a lot more years. I just got my Medicare Card. I stay very active. Regularly I work on posture and flexibility and will spend more time on squatting. To keep things fun I walk golf often and play racquetball. I’m sure lifting weights would be helpful but I can’t seem to commit the time at this point.
    Thanks
    Keep on keeping on.
    Art Caldwell

    • Hi Art,
It’s nice to hear from you! I know you like to stay active. It sounds like you are doing all the right things (and most importantly) having fun! It’s funny that you mention that you intend to stay young for many more years. I have had several questions and statements lately implying that a person may be “too old” to improve or make any progress with my suggestions. The sad part is: if someone feels that way, then he/she is right. More than anything else, I think keeping a young spirit leads to successful aging–it trumps everything! It sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Hopefully, we can meet up at a BBQ soon. Take care and enjoy your summer!
      Ben

  2. This article has been more helpful to me then anything I’ve read in 25 yrs. I’ve just gotten used to, my “bad knees”…and the issues, namely pain, that this stupid patella disorder has caused me. Accepting constant pain, just isn’t an option for me anymore! I appreciate all the info you’ve provided. Especially utilizing natural and organic products. I look forward to learning what more I can do for my back as well. It will be THE point of reference, for me, from now on.
    Thanks!!

    • Sarah, I truly appreciate the kind words and compliments. The purpose of this website is to be a resource for those that need assistance in treating and managing common orthopaedic related conditions in the hope we can all live with less pain enjoying our lives and aging well. Thank you! Ben

  3. Hello,
I am looking for some exercises to help with frozen shoulder. The ortho surgeon said he believes it’s due to rotator cuff impingement.
It’s a been a year long journey to get to this place. I am an active mom and need some actions I can do to know I am being proactive in recovery of my right arm. The pain is constant with flares, depending on my movement.
    Thank you!

    • Hi Ashanti,
I’m sorry to hear about your frozen shoulder. I would highly suggest you meet with a physical therapist to help you lay out a treatment plan. I have found with my clients that focusing on one direction first is the most beneficial course of action. Typically that means focusing on forward flexion of the arm. Then I will usually progress to shoulder external rotation. You can use a pulley to help you with the shoulder flexion. Here is a link to my post and video on the topic:

      https://www.thephysicaltherapyadvisor.com/2016/01/20/how-to-use-shoulder-pulleys-to-regain-shoulder-motion/

If you don’t have a pulley, then just put your hand on the edge of a counter top and slowly lean forward….this will flex your arm for you. It is better to perform the exercises multiple times a day for a minute or two instead of doing them all at once.

I hope that helps you some. Best of luck!
